Guardians Bringing XFL Football Back to Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. (Florida Sports Channel) – The Orlando Guardians held a press conference, today, at Camping World Stadium to announce the return of football to Orlando.

XFL Owner and Chairwoman Dany Garcia, who is the first woman to own a professional sports league, told the media, “We are committed to long-term building. We are not here for one year, we are here for YEARS.”

Former FSU and NFL great, and Super Bowl XXXVI Champion, Guardians Head Coach, Terrell Buckley, assured that “We are prepared. We are ready. We want to bring here a smart, fast, and fearless football team. We’re gonna make everybody in this area proud to say they’re fans of the Orlando Guardians.”

While today’s conference took place at the Guardians home field, the rest of the team is busy practicing at the XFL’s training hub in Arlington, Texas. The Guardians started their training camp with 76 players, and are currently in the process of trimming to end up with a regular season roster of 50, and a game day roster of 45.

The XFL season kicks off the weekend after the Super Bowl. The Guardians’ first game will be on Saturday, 2/18 against the Houston Roughnecks at 8:30 p.m., while the team’s first home game is scheduled for Sunday, 2/26 against the San Antonio Brahmas at 4:00 p.m.
